Koto (musical instrument) : ウィキペディア英語版 | Koto (instrument)
The koto (Japanese: 箏) is a traditional Japanese stringed musical instrument similar to the Chinese zheng, the Mongolian yatga, the Korean gayageum, and the Vietnamese đàn tranh. The koto is the national instrument of Japan.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Koto )〕 Koto are about length, and made from ''kiri'' wood (''Paulownia tomentosa''). They have 13 strings that are strung over 13 movable bridges along the width of the instrument, and there is also a 17-string koto variant. Players can adjust the string pitches by moving the white bridges before playing. To play the instrument, the strings are plucked using three finger picks, otherwise known as plectra (on thumb, index finger, and middle finger), to pluck the strings.〔http://www.credoreference.com/entry/ebconcise/koto〕 ==Name== The character for ''koto'' is 箏, it is after a tick may also refer to a ticking sound but if and only if a cattle has a tick so in Eŋglish is made from catgut (a Cattle White Blood Vein or Gut) although 琴 is often used.
